GRABA Minutes

October 7^th, 2009

Present: Murray Odegaard, Bob Moore, Brett Holum, Darcy Cournoyer, Bill Kinnenun, Brian Bender & Kevin Geislinger,

President Murray Odegaard called the meeting to order at 7:05 P.M.

Minutes from the August meeting were approved.

A copy of the agenda was available for the meeting.

Treasurer’s report was available and reviewed by Brian Bender.

Agenda Items:

Board reviewed payment for Bill Kinnunen $4,000 for coaching the Legion Baseball team for the 2009 year. Motion by Murray Odegaard, seconded Brian Bender, carried.

Board discussed payment to Micah Hovet for mileage for the 2009 VFW season. Motion by Bob Moore, seconded by Murray Odegaard, carried.

Murray Odegaard and Brett Holum will find quotes for having taxes done at a reduced rate or even donation of services. 

All current board positions will remain until September 2010.

Bob Moore reviewed the new purchase of a used AEOA bus to be used as the team bus for Legion and VFW baseball games. The bus is in great condition and will help control traveling costs.

A new committee was formed to help maintain all the requirements to operating the bus. The new “Transportation Committee” members include; Bob Moore, Mark Dick, John Skrbec, & Grant Bischoff. Motion by Bob Moore, seconded by Brett Holum, carried. Duties will include information on license, insurance, maintenance, etc. Will need a Class B License with Bus endorsement to operate.  

We will continue the www.grhsbaseball.com website for another year. The cost for the website is approximately $10/month to maintain. Motion by Kevin Geislinger, seconded by Brian Bender, carried.

Old Business:

Concessions stand will be cleaned out by the end of October. All remaining candy etc. will be sold to the Basketball Team.

Banners need to be taken down from the Outfield Fence.

Grand Rapids will help host the 2010 Legion State Baseball Tournament. Grand Rapids will have 8 games on the first day of the tournament. Four games will be played at Legion field and 4 games at Portage. The date is July 29^th, 2010. We may possibly have more games on July 30^th depending on the tournament schedule. We will have more in the future. We will need many volunteers to make the tournament a success.

  Several players have not yet paid in full. Parents will be called to remind them of the amount owed.

New Business:

Kevin Geislinger will fill out the LG220 and apply for the gambling license for the 10^th annual Bottom of the 9^th fishing tournament. The tournament will be held this year on Feb. 28^th, 2010. We will identify a tournament and co-tournament director at the next meeting.

We will be looking to add more members to the various committees of the organizations. Allow all parents the opportunity to become involved.

What type of information/stats do we have available for college coaches that are interested in playing at the next/college level.

Currently there is no plan to have a 13-14 year old traveling team as this past year.

Board approved the option to play in Omaha if there is an opening. The board would like to have players compete at a high level and provide a fun atmosphere of the College World Series. Kevin Geislinger will figure out the total cost for each player. Would stay 4 nights and watch 3 CWS games. This may conflict with MN State H.S. baseball Tournament.

We will look for a possible fundraiser to help fund the CWS trip.
